Traffic restrictions

Works after opening to two-way traffic

Some construction activities will continue following opening of the expressway to two-way traffic, including interchange ramp road works, activation of the new two-way electronic signage system, landscaping, fencing, construction of the new western recreational pathway and noise barrier installation. This work will require some lane restrictions, weekend closures and closures outside of peak periods. Whilst the expressway interchanges will be operational, they will be subject to temporary traffic restrictions and speed reductions.

Please see the list below for works that will be undertaken after the expressway is opened to two-way traffic. Speed limits of 40kph will apply through all interchanges for a short period following opening of the expressway to two-way traffic.

Darlington Interchange

  • completion of detention basins and fencing around basins
  • completion of pedestrian path construction under the Sturt River bridge (existing pedestrian detour will remain in place until this occurs - download the 'Darlington' plan for further information).
  • Two overhead gantry signs to be modified.

  • One overhead gantry sign and framework to be removed (on Main South Road, Darlington - see image below).

Marion Interchange

Completion of detention basin and fencing around basin

  • Final surfacing and line-marking
  • Kerbing and median works
  • Completion of footpaths (existing pedestrian detours will remain in place - download the 'Marion' plan for further information)
  • Installation of new traffic signals
  • Completion of works for new left turn from Marion Road onto expressway south-bound on-ramp (this movement will therefore not be available upon opening of the expressway to two-way traffic)
  • Completion of works for new right turn from expressway to Marion Road (new movement)
  • One overhead gantry sign and framework to be removed (on existing south-bound entry ramp)
  • Two overhead gantry signs to be modified.

Reynella Interchange

  • Bus stop works
  • Bridge repair works
  • Four overhead gantry signs to be modified
  • Completion of the realigned Coast to Vines Trail along and on the new on-ramp fly-over structure (pedestrian and cyclists will continue to be detoured via Landa Road and the veloway on the eastern side of the expressway)

Sherriffs Road Interchange

  • Completion of detention basin
  • Final surfacing and line-marking (including ramps)
  • Four overhead gantry signs to be modified
  • Two overhead gantry signs and framework to be removed
  • Guard rail and coreten sheet installation on south-bound exit ramp.

Beach Road Interchange

  • Completion of detention basin
  • Final surfacing and line-marking (including works at Goldsmith Drive/Beach Road junction)
  • Traffic signal modifications
  • Completion of widening of northern footpath (existing pedestrian and cyclist detours will remain in place - download the 'Beach Road' plan for further information).

Old Noarlunga Interchange

  • Completion of detention basins
  • Completion of Southern landscape feature mound
  • three overhead gantry signs to be modified
  • Median works.

Marion Road Interchange – northbound exit-ramp works, mid May until late August/early September 2014

Works to construct the new northbound exit-ramp at the Marion Road Interchange will be undertaken from mid May 2014 until late August / early September 2014.

The works will involve asphalt laying, services, pavement and drainage installation, adjacent the Southern Expressway bridge on Marion Road.

Pedestrian and cyclist access on Marion Road between Main South Road and Ralph Street, Sturt will be temporarily diverted to the eastern side of Marion Road.

The bus shelter on Marion Road under the Southern Expressway bridge will also be temporarily out of service. Adelaide Metro passengers who ride services 640 and N21 from bus stop 29C Marion Road (west side only) will be able to access services from bus stop 29B, located 200m north on Marion Road. Traffic on Marion Road will be maintained in each direction at all times, however there will be lane restrictions and reduced speed limits in place. Advanced warning signs will notify road users of the changes.

Works will generally be undertaken from Monday to Saturday between 6.00 am and 7.00 pm (weather permitting). At times, it may be necessary for crews to work outside of these times. If this is the case, advance notification will be provided.
